#1 Green - 2019 Plans (Updated 5.7.19)

Update 5.7.19
Lake Waco approaching #1 Green on 5.6.19
Our #1 green has been reopened for just over two weeks. Unfortunately, last week's rains have increased the elevation of Lake Waco to 467.88 (about 6 feet above normal). #1 Green sits at 470ft elevation and is still above water, however the right greenside bunker is now unplayable. Depending on how much additional rainfall occurs over the water shed - it is possible that the green will go back under water later this week.
This snapshot from TDA's most recent grading plan shows the new #1 green at an elevation of 485ft.
In the meantime, we are making progress on plans to permanently relocate this green to higher elevation. Our most recent plans show the new green at almost 485ft elevation. Based on lake level statistics over the last 15 years - this elevation would reduce the number of days flooded by almost 97%.

We are working to finalize construction documents and anticipate the bid process to begin as early as t week. Scroll down to learn more about this upcoming work and our anticipated construction timeline.

#1 Green Will Re-open April 22nd

Multiple flood events in late 2018 and early 2019 required our #1 Green to once again be replanted. Since that time our crew has worked diligently to get the green back in playing condition. Over the last few months we have reseeded multiple times, frequently covered the green (to protect the seed from cold temperatures), and implemented long list of other maintenance practices. Spring temperatures have greatly aided our efforts and the green is steadily improving everyday. Our plan is to open the green for play next Monday (April 22nd) ahead of the Texas Super Senior State Championship. The green will remain open for play until renovation work begins in July that will permanently relocate it to higher ground. See video below for more info:

Over the last four years our members have been unable to play #1 green almost 33 percent of the time due to flooding and related damage. The design for the “New #1” provided by Tripp Davis and Associates will greatly reduce the impact of flooding by raising the elevation of #1 green from 470ft to about 484ft. Statistically, this would reduce the number of days spent under water by over 90%.  The project will also include renovating #2 tee boxes and building a new turf nursery green (behind the main parking lot). Construction is anticipated to last four to six weeks. We plan to seed the new #1 green by August 15th and have it ready for play by Thanksgiving. Golfers can expect all of #1 and at least part of #2 to remain closed during both construction and grow-in.
